Artist Harumi Abe Joins the WAAM Platform

Harumi Abe is a Japanese-born artist whose landscape paintings explore themes of evolving environments, identity, the sublime, and our relationship with nature. Raised in Tokorozawa, Japan, she has lived in South Florida for more than two decades, drawing inspiration from both the landscapes of her birthplace and the vibrant ecosystems of her adopted home.

Her work has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions, including recent shows at the Saladrigas Gallery at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in Miami, Terzo Piano in Washington, D.C., the Walgreen Windows Project by Oolite Arts, and the AIRIE Nest Gallery in Everglades National Park. Her paintings are held in significant public and private collections, including the de la Cruz Collection, the Girls’ Club Collection, and the Liza and Arturo Mosquera Collection.
Abe’s practice has been recognized with honors such as the South Florida Cultural Consortium Grant (2008, 2021) and the Sustainable Arts Foundation Award (2022). She has participated in residencies at Oolite Arts, the Vermont Studio Center, the Everglades Artist-in-Residence program, and Dickinson House in Belgium. She holds an MFA from Florida International University and has taught at colleges across South Florida as well as the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Working from her home studio in Hollywood, Florida, Abe continues to create paintings that weave together memory, place, and the impermanence of the natural world.
